Under the direction of the Director of NA Manufacturing, the Operations Manager- Chicago, is accountable for managing the manufacture of all products at the Chicago production site.  The incumbent will ensure that the Company’s interests are represented in terms of safety, quality, cost, and delivery of product required to meet sales forecasts.  

  • Provide leadership to the Production team, and all other office employees involved in the following areas: Quality Assurance, Scheduling, Inventory, Resource Planning, and Office Support to ensure a safe and efficient manufacture environment.  Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation.
  • Prepare an annual operating budget for the Chicago operation.  Report on spending monthly.  Develop manufacturing costs and apply them properly to the material cost of goods to ensure proper recovery of expenses.  Track variances and work to eliminate.  
  • Identify opportunities for product quality improvement (packaging, process efficiency, etc) and drive these initiatives through the leadership of the roles reporting in.  
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities to meet customer demands in a safe and cost-effective manner 
  • New product introductions are coordinated and implemented effectively
  • Reviews candidates for employment.  Leads effort to review and select permanent hourly and salaried candidates.  Participates in other personnel selections.
  • Leads in manner that fosters an atmosphere of involvement, teamwork, participation, and continuous improvement.
  • Develops personnel using the Performance Management process.  Conducts performance reviews at least twice per year for all full-time employees including development plans and training needs.  
  • Coordinates activities and plans with other departments

  • Peers with NA HSE Manager, Manufacturing Manager Fungicides/Insecticides, and Engineering/Maintenance Manager

Background Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or other related technical degree – Equivalent (10) years agriculture chemical manufacturing management experience will be considered as well.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a process manufacturing environment with a thorough understanding of batch processing.
  • Experience and knowledge in PSM (Process Safety Management) systems and OSHA 29 CFR 1910
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, ERP Systems such as Oracle. Computer literate.  High level of proficiency with latest office technology.
  • Strong analytical skills to define critical issues and develop methodologies for collecting/analysing relevant data.
  • Strong communication, analytical and technical skills, keen interest for problem solving and troubleshooting are essential.
  • Listens well and is aware of personal strengths and weaknesses and takes continuous action to improve personal capabilities
